We were honoured to be invited to participate in a poignant project spearheaded by the remarkable Morven Robinson, centred around male mental health. The project’s objective was clear: to shed light on the authentic struggles faced by men in a manner that resonated with raw honesty and relatability. Morven graciously welcomed our input, prompting us to brainstorm ways in which we could contribute meaningfully.
Pooling our creative resources, we devised a series of engaging workshop activities and crafted a song to be performed at Morven’s event. Collaborating with local artists Balby Local, Junior, D.Fault, and Jos Cozi, alongside the talented videographer Reel It Photo and Sheffield-based producer KDMadeit, we brought our vision to life through the creation of ‘Hopeless’. This powerful song serves as a window into the inner turmoil experienced by young men, drawing directly from insights gathered through extensive research spanning over three months. The poignant lyrics were crafted from the candid responses of young men across South Yorkshire, gleaned from a series of probing questions aimed at unravelling the intricacy of individual experiences associated with mental health challenges.
Below, you’ll find a compelling video for the song ‘Hopeless’, accompanied by evocative imagery that captures the essence of our collaborative endeavour. Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to download the song and delve deeper into the emotional resonance it’s lyrics embody.
